'Terriers' take over OB

Photos taken by Joe Stargensky

Terriers take over the town for the show “Terriers”, a cop drama pilot featuring Ocean Beach!

(The police dept is actually the old Cal Trans building on Juan St. in Old Town and they put the name up “Ocean Beach”.)

That's all the info we have at the moment, but keep your eyes open throughout town for the film crew!

FYI: OB MainStreet has been assured that no thru traffic will be blocked during filming.

FRIDAY, JULY 17: JOIN US FOR OUR 1ST CD RELEASE PARTY!

WAVES: the Sound of Ocean Beach, Volume 1

Come celebrate the first-ever community music compilation: the CD release of WAVES: the Sound of Ocean Beach, Volume 1 Friday, July 17 at the Masonic Center, 1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd, 92107.

Admission is FREE. Food and beverages by Hodad’s Jr. Catering, Pizza Port, Beach Sweets and others will be available for purchase.

While many cities pride themselves in their music culture, very few communities boast the talent and recourses of Ocean Beach. "OB has 18,000 people living here...about 17,000 of them play music", said record producer Chuck Schiele. "Imagine a community releasing its own record."

Many of the groups featured on the CD will perform live at this event including Blackbirdz, Chi Club, Steve Phillips and the Pescadero Pickers, Bad Science Fiction, Meld, John Miller and the Payback, Coco and Lafe, and more.

The Ocean Beach MainStreet Association produced the project—a CD with music about OB - by OB musicians—as part of the year’s 30th Anniversary celebration of the annual OB Street Fair and Chili Cookoff and 4th of July Fireworks off the OB pier.

Schiele, owner of StudiOB92107.com (a digital recording studio), produced several of the bands, compiled the CD and designed the CD’s artwork and collateral materials.

In addition to the wealth of musical talent, the cover of the WAVES CD features a hauntingly beautiful photo of Ocean Beach - by OB photographer, Jim Grant - a true collaborative community effort.

The WAVES CD will be available for purchase the night of the event, at the OBMA office 1868 Bacon St. #A, San Diego, CA 92107, and at other local businesses in the OB business district.

Please call 619.224.4906 or email obevents@oceanbeachsandiego.com for more information.

MORE STREET FAIR PHOTOS!

Here are some more photos from that wonderful day, already a week ago...

The Community Mural's beginning.

Janis Ambrosiani, Community Mural chair/ Owner, Walls With a View

After Rich James (original Mural chair) passed,
Janis took on the tasks of designing the annual mural, stocking the paint, brushes and needed supplies, selling squares, overseeing the painting, applying the protective coat after,
AND finding a spot for it to hang.
PHEW! That's a LOT of work!!
Thank you Janis and your volunteer crew!

The 2009 Community Mural

Almost done... Keep your eye out in the neighborhood to see where it ends up!

Cox Business, OB Street Fair sponsor
We wish to extend a huge THANK YOU to Cox Business for their loyal sponsorship.
Their support provides the FREE Old Town trolley that transported over 1,000 riders between their vehicles and the fair on Street Fair day.

The OB Historical Society booth.

An awesome organization that preserves and educates the public about our past.
Check them out to learn more about the history of Ocean Beach.

Barbara Iacommeti, OB Street Fair committee chair/
Owner, Details SalonSpa

Barbara chaired the street fair committee for the first time this year...
she was AMAZING!!
She was on the street by 2am and didn't leave until 10.30 street fair night!

"I wanted to watch it all unfold," she said.
"I wanted to know how every aspect of the fair gets put together."

I shot this photo of her early in the morning thinking she would be crabby later on...
I was wrong. She kept her smile all day.
When she finished at the end of the day she said she'll chair the committee again next year. Yay!!
